Most adults have had a cavity or two filled in their lives. However, most of us aren’t familiar with the process. In this video, you will learn how a dentist fills your cavities.
The first thing the dentist will do is check your blood pressure. Then, the dentist will apply some numbing gel to the tooth so that you don’t feel as much pain.
They will also use some local anesthetic. While they wait for the numbing, the dentist will rinse out your mouth. Once your mouth is numb, they will use a laser, drill, or air abrasion instrument to remove the decaying area of the tooth. There is often a suction tube to clear out any debris from this process.
Once the decay is removed, the dentist prepares for the filling. The dentist will first place an etch on the tooth. Etch is an acid gel which is used to roughen the enamel. After this, they will clean your moth again to remove the acid. Then, the filling is placed and molded to look natural. Once the dentist is satisfied, the composite fillings are hardened by light.
