Dental Surgery: 5 Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Procedures

Written by Metro Dental. Posted in Uncategorized

Jaw and dental problems can range from minor annoyances to severely painful situations. These kinds of oral issues can be so painful that even simple daily tasks are difficult to perform.

Thankfully, there are various oral surgery options that can dramatically improve the way your teeth and jaw are aligned, how your smile looks, and alleviate all kinds of pain.

Here are some frequently asked questions pertaining to various oral surgery procedures:

  1. How many people have jaw issues? – When it comes to major jaw problems, about 20% of the population has some level of significant facial growth deformity. Orthognathic surgery can correct skeletal deformities and improve your bite.
  2. How long does orthognathic surgery last? – Typically, orthognathic surgery takes between three and five hours and is performed under general anesthesia inside a hospital or in a surgical center.
  3. How many people have dental implants? – Currently, there are 3 million people who have dental implants in the United States. That number is going to increase by about 500,000 each year, as well. However, 15 million people in the U.S. currently have dental crowns and bridge replacements for missing teeth and, according to the American College of Prosthodontists, more than 35 million Americans in total are missing all their teeth in one or both jaws.
  4. What is the success rate for dental implants? – According to the Journal of Oral Implantology, the success rate of dental implants has been reported as 98%. The estimated U.S. and European market for dental implants is expected to reach $4.2 billion by 2022. As of 2019, 10% of all U.S. dentists place implants, and that number is also increasing.
  5. When do wisdom teeth come in? –Wisdom teeth, often referred to as third molars, are the last teeth to develop. They come in between the ages of 17 and 25 years old and might not need to be removed if they grow in and are functional, cavity-free, disease-free, and painless.

An Interview with Dr. Saj Jivraj of Anacapa Dental Art Institute

Written by Metro Dental. Posted in Uncategorized

Since 1996, Dr. Saj Jivraj has helped patients improve the look and functionality of their smiles at the Anacapa Dental Art Institute in California. Along with his partner, Dr. Mamaly Reshad, Dr. Jivraj has secured two locations for his business — one in Oxnard, and one in Woodland Hills. We sat down with Dr. Jivraj to hear more about the genesis of his cosmetic dental practice.

Dr. Jivraj, why did you choose to go into the business of dental restoration?

I started my practice to help people live their lives. There are many patients out there who are struggling with their teeth, and do not know there are options for them. Your mouth is a mirror to the rest of your body, and an unhealthy mouth often equates to health problems in general. Being able to help patients eat, smile, and build confidence is what I enjoy most.

What specific plans have you set in place to achieve those goals?

My plan for the practice was to build a state-of-the-art facility that our patients could enjoy and feel totally ease at in. State-of-the-art does not just mean equipment, but state-of-the-art training for all clinicians that work with us. There were times where we could not see the light at the end of the tunnel, but with hard work, our vision is becoming a reality. I am a firm believer of sticking to the task at hand and not giving up. With perseverance, you can achieve anything.

Very inspiring words, and very true. Is your practice where you thought it would be now, or do you have plans for future improvement?

I am right on schedule, but there are many more things I want to achieve over the next 20 years. I’d like to be recognized as one of the elite practices in the United States that is known for customer service, delivering excellent clinical care, being able to teach generations of other dentists to perform at the highest level possible, and leaving a legacy.

Anacapa has two locations: one in Oxnard at 2821 North Ventura Road and one in Woodland Hills at 6325 Topanga Canyon Road. You can call (805)604-5811, (818)839-7419 or visit www.dentalimplantsventura.com to learn more about the practice.
